Come Holy Spirit

May 5, 2008 |

The Ascension is behind us - last Thursday or yesterday, we recalled Christ’s rising into heaven to take his seat at the right hand of his Father.

Now, we wait - but how?  Are we treating this week as any other week?  Or are we realizing that this is a special time for us - that this Sunday isn’t just another Sunday?

We are in the run-up to Pentecost Sunday - the end of the Easter Season.  It’s the time of the Holy Spirit - coming to the disciples - coming to us.

Quick, name the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.  Could you do it?  How about the twelve fruits?

How many of us are doing a novena to the Holy Spirit as we approach next Sunday?  How many of us are really trying to get to know the Holy Spirit - the third member of the three-person, one God trinity?

How many of us include the Holy Spirit in our daily prayers?

How many of us feel the Holy Spirit within us?  Directing us, guiding us, instructing us?

This week is a good one to really listen to the Holy Spirit and learn about the role he plays in our lives and in our faith.  The Holy Spirit is that special gift from God the Father and God the Son.  Let us use this week to prepare to fully accept this gift on Pentecost Sunday.

Let us use this week to truly get to know the Holy Spirit.
